The number of public companies has been cut in half over the last 20 years, as the amount of capital in private equity and venture funds has increased more than 12-fold.

It’s an important trend that’s been sent into overdrive this year, with SoftBank’s launch of the $100 billion Vision Fund.

This one private fund is larger than all the IPO proceeds raised from 2010-2012, and is more than twice the size of the combined value of the next five largest tech funds in history.
